Build Your Website and They Will Come?...Not Really
Perhaps
you have tried to purchase large volumes of inexpensive traffic,
like guaranteed traffic, redirect traffic, surf traffic, or
exit, pop-under, or pop-up traffic. If you are reading this,
like most who have tried these types of traffic, you have
probably been disappointed. All those visitors but no sales.
One
thing you must understand before you can become effective
converting these types of traffic is that when you are
purchasing high volumes of inexpensive traffic, you are really
only purchasing exposures or views. So, for example, you might
purchase 10,000 exit pop-unders for $10. At first glance, if
you are new to the business, that might sound like a great deal
(especially if you have no traffic now!). However, with exit
traffic, only a small percentage of the people who see your site
will have any interest at all your site, and be inclined to
spend more than a split second at your site. Imagine that 10
people chose to spend some time at your site. In effect, you
have really only purchased 10 visitors for $10, a cost of $1 per
visitor.
For this
type of traffic to be effective, you must do two things: 1)
Get a higher number of the people who see your site to spend
some time there, rather than quickly clicking out or 2) Get a
higher conversion rate out of the ones who do spend some time
there. In reality, you want to focus on improving both.
The key
to this type of traffic is to create specific “landing pages”
for each traffic source, rather than having all the traffic
directed to your main web sales page. Keep in mind, that
because these “high traffic pages” are going to have a specific
purpose which is different from the purpose of your regular
sales page, they must be a different page. You cannot make one
web page effective for all your sources of traffic. Ideally you
should have a different web page for every type of traffic you
have, and use that web page as an ‘entry page’ to get the
visitor into your web site.
This
particular page, designed to capture the attention of the
general public as they are leaving another site, will be one
that stands out from typical web pages. The reader must
immediately know what the page is about, or they will click
out.
How do
you make this type of page stand out? You can create a giant
headline. This headline should be attention-grabbing, and
command action. For example: TO LEARN EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO
KNOW ABOUT DOG TRAINING, CLICK HERE NOW! That might be all you
put on that page. If they click through, they will arrive at
your regular sales page. Now, you have a true
visitor---generally only people interested in dog training will
click through to that page.
Another
effective technique to use with high-volume traffic is a sign-up
page. This will be a short headline and maybe one line of
additional text, asking the reader to input their name and email
address for more information. Make the ‘more information’
something of value, like a 10 day online course for free or a
free ebook (or both).
